Buying for your baby in Worcester: a Mum-to-be’s shopping guide

Even if you don’t enjoy shopping normally (as I don’t), I’m certain that you’ll love buying for your baby.

When I was expecting my little one, shopping for her became one of the highlights of those final months. It was such a special and exciting time!

I loved having the opportunity to browse the shops in peace. This was something that I presumed I wouldn’t be able to do with a baby in tow in the future.

And, I was pleased to discover some really lovely independent baby shops locally which catered for a pregnant mum’s every need.

Read on and you’ll notice that I’ve listed predominantly small privately-owned shops and online baby businesses. That’s because I like to support independent businesses whenever possible. Are you the same?

Next Generation Pram and Nursery Centre, Defford

This local and independent store sells everything you need from travel systems to pushchairs, car seats, nursery furniture and more. I shopped there when I was pregnant with my daughter. I found the team there were really knowledgeable and friendly.

Explain what you’re looking for and they’ll help you work out what travel systems work best for you. Plus, they’ll even check if the ones you are considering fit in the boot of your car. What great service!

Jojo Maman Bebe, Worcester

You’ll be familiar with this famous maternity and babywear brand. From humble beginnings as a kitchen table start-up, their ethos has always been to offer gorgeous but practical French-influenced clothes.

The Worcester-based store sells much more than clothes. In fact, most things you’ll need to tick off the baby list.

They offer a bra fitting service which is really handy during pregnancy and beyond. Plus, if you’re returning in the future with your little one, you’ll come to love the fact that the store has a toilet and baby change facility, as well as a quiet space to feed your baby.

It’s also conveniently close to nearby car parks and some of the great restaurants we now have in Worcester.

Blooming Lovely Jewellery

Founded by Laura, a local mum to two girls, Blooming Lovely Jewellery blossomed out of her own journey through motherhood.

During her pregnancy she discovered the tradition of the Mexican Bola – a chiming pendant also known as a ‘harmony ball’ or ‘angel caller’. This became the inspiration for starting the business.

Blooming Lovely Jewellery

Each piece of jewellery from this luxury range is carefully curated with tradition and meaning in mind. They are designed, hand-crafted and hallmarked in the UK.

If you’re looking for pregnancy jewellery or that something special to mark the arrival of your new baby, the sterling silver collection is crafted from beautiful, solid sterling silver and is absolutely gorgeous.

If you’re in the market for bright and colourful bespoke wall art for your nursery, why not take a look at the designs from Sonny and Wren? This is another local mum-run business which is well worth checking out.

Tildy and Thomas

Another fantastic mum-run local business is Tildy and Thomas, which designs and makes fun children’s clothes. If you can’t wear orange clouds and multicoloured monsters as a child, when can you?

This creative mum has an incredible passion for good quality, gender-neutral, fun clothing that won’t restrict play.

Knitted by LW

Local crafter, Lucy Wickett was taught from an early age to hand knit by her Nan. Today, she is a successful knitwear designer and maker. She creates unique personalised baby blankets and other hand-knitted pieces from her studio in Worcestershire.

What I love about Lucy’s products is that she uses 100% sustainable, locally-made fibres, sourced in the UK. And she uses a wonderful array of colours so her products would brighten up any room.
